Principles

Core Attitude & Focus

  • We treat every concern with seriousness and care.
  • We believe it is essential to support people and not leave them alone in dealing with the consequences of discrimination or (sexualized) violence.
  • We place the well-being and needs of those affected by violence at the center of our work.

Advocacy & Self-Determination

  • We fundamentally stand on the side of those affected who reach out to us.
  • Support is provided solely at the request and consent of the person concerned.

Approach & Sensitivities

  • Our methods are designed to recognize intersectionality and overlapping experiences of discrimination.
  • In collaborations with other initiatives, it is important to us that everyone involved is sufficiently informed about awareness and sensitivity to discrimination.
  • We rely on established practices in awareness work and stay in constant exchange with other initiatives to continue learning and developing together.

Reflection, Growth & Feedback Culture

  • We regularly question and discuss our structures, principles, and methods, and remain open to criticism and feedback.
  • We work according to the Awareness Standards and are integrated into their reflection processes and feedback structures.
  • Our support structure is organized into two sections:
    • If you want to address a concern directly to us (awaGraz), you can do so via our contact form or our email address.
    • If you prefer not to share your feedback with us directly, our external support structure lies with people from AwA* in Vienna. They can listen to your concern and support you in considering next steps. You can reach them at: anlaufstelle@awa-stern.info
    • In this way, we ensure that there are always trusted points of contact who are not in positions of power and are able to provide support.
